Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes with Glaze

Ingredients:

For the Donut Holes:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk (or more for desired consistency)

Instructions:

  1. Make the Donut Hole Dough:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The dough will be thick but sticky.
  2. Heat the Oil:
Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot over medium heat. The oil should be heated to 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping in a small amount of dough — it should sizzle and rise to the surface quickly.
  3. Fry the Donut Holes:
Using a spoon or your hands, scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough and carefully drop it into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pan; fry about 4-6 donut holes at a time. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the donut holes from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  4. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:
In a shallow bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon for the coating. While the donut holes are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
  5. Prepare the Glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed. You want the glaze to be smooth but thick enough to coat the donut holes without dripping too much.
  6. Glaze the Donut Holes:
Drizzle the glaze over the cinnamon sugar-coated donut holes, or dip the tops of the donut holes into the glaze.
  7. Serve:
Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade cinnamon sugar donut holes with a delicious glaze!

These donut holes are best enjoyed fresh and warm! They’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet snack.
