Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 2 cups cooked rice (preferably leftover rice)
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (14 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or a cheese blend)
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions:
- Cook the Beef:
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of olive oil.
- Add the chopped onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Season with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir in the tomato sauce and simmer for 3-4 minutes until everything is well combined.
- Assemble the Casserole:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a casserole dish (about 9×9 inches or similar size), layer half of the cooked rice on the bottom.
- Spread half of the cooked beef mixture over the rice.
- Sprinkle with half of the shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining rice, beef mixture, and top with the remaining cheese. If you’re using Parmesan, sprinkle it on top of the mozzarella for extra flavor.
- Bake:
- Place the casserole dish in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden on top.
- Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before serving. Slice into squares and enjoy!
