Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 medium potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet works best)
- 1 large onion (yellow or white)
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (or butter for extra flavor)
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- Optional: Garlic, herbs like thyme or rosemary, or a dash of paprika for extra flavor
Instructions:
- Prepare the potatoes:
- Peel the potatoes (optional, as the skin can add texture) and slice them into thin rounds or wedges.
- Rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch (this helps them crisp up better while frying). Pat them dry with a towel.
- Prepare the onions:
- Peel and slice the onion thinly into rings or half-rings, depending on your preference.
- Fry the potatoes:
- Heat the oil or butter in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, add the sliced potatoes in a single layer. Let them cook for 4-5 minutes before stirring or flipping to ensure they get a nice golden-brown color.
- Stir occasionally to avoid burning and ensure they cook evenly, turning them as needed. Continue frying until the potatoes are tender and crispy.
- Add the onions:
- Once the potatoes are almost done (soft and crispy), add the onions to the skillet.
- Stir to combine, and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the onions are caramelized and tender.
- Seasoning:
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. If you’re using any additional seasonings like garlic, herbs, or paprika, sprinkle them in at this stage.
- Stir to evenly coat the potatoes and onions with the seasonings.
- Serve:
- Once everything is cooked through, and the potatoes are golden and crispy, remove the skillet from heat.
- Serve immediately, either as a side dish or as part of a main meal.
