Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes: The Ultimate Comfort Food Side Dish

Ingredients:

  • 4–5 medium potatoes (thinly sliced)
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar works best)
  • 1 can (300–400 ml) cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon paprika or dried herbs

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven
    Set your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Prepare potatoes
    Wash and slice the potatoes thinly (no need to peel unless you prefer).
  3. Make the sauce
    In a bowl, mix:
    • Cream soup
    • Milk
    • Garlic
    • Half of the shredded cheese
    • Salt & pepper
  4. Layer the dish
    • Lightly grease a baking dish
    • Add a layer of potatoes
    • Pour some sauce over
    • Repeat layers until everything is used
  5. Add topping
    Sprinkle remaining cheese on top and dot with butter.
  6. Bake
    Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes, then uncover and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.

  • Slice potatoes evenly so they cook uniformly
  • Add onions or bacon bits for extra flavor
  • Let it rest 10 minutes before serving (it thickens nicely)
