Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade), thawed
  • 3–4 slices cooked ham
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or gruyère work great)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the pastry: Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread the filling:
    • Brush the pastry lightly with Dijon mustard.
    • Evenly layer the ham slices over the pastry.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  4. Roll it up: Starting from one long edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log.
  5. Chill: Place the roll in the fridge for 10–15 minutes — this makes slicing easier.
  6. Slice: Cut into 1.5 cm (½-inch) thick slices and place them flat on the baking sheet.
  7. Brush with egg wash for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
  9. Cool slightly before serving.

🍽️ Tips:

  • Add a sprinkle of black pepper or dried herbs for extra flavor.
  • Serve warm with honey mustard or a light dipping sauce.
  • These can be made ahead and frozen — just bake straight from frozen, adding 5 more minutes to the time.
