Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of cheeses you like)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter (plus a little extra for brushing)
  • 1 large egg

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add cheese: Stir in the shredded cheese until evenly coated with flour.
  4. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix milk, melted butter, and egg.
  5. Make the batter: Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined (don’t overmix).
  6. Bake: Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Optional: Sprinkle a little extra cheese on top for a golden, cheesy crust.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool slightly before slicing. Brush with melted butter if desired.
