- In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat.
- In a bowl, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks.
- Gradually add the egg mixture to the heated milk, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
- Cook on low heat until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and butter. Set aside to cool.

Prepare the Pastry Layers:
- Preheat the oven according to your puff pastry package instructions.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into rectangles that will fit your baking pan.
- Place the pastry on a baking sheet and bake until golden and crispy (around 15-20 minutes depending on thickness).
- Once baked, allow the pastry to cool.

- Start by placing one layer of the baked puff pastry on a serving platter.
- Spread a generous amount of the cooled custard over the pastry.
- Place another layer of puff pastry on top and repeat the process, layering custard between the puff pastry sheets.
- Continue until you’ve used up all the custard and pastry layers.

Add the Finishing Touches:
- For the topping, sprinkle the top layer of pastry with breadcrumbs and optionally a dusting of powdered sugar.
- You can also add crushed almonds or nuts for extra crunch and decoration.
