- ⅔ cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- ¼ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
👩🍳 Instructions
- Activate the yeast:
In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Stir in yeast and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. - Mix the dough:
Add salt and oil. Gradually mix in flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. - Knead:
Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. - First rise:
Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size. - Shape:
Punch down dough and divide into two equal parts. Shape into loaves and place into greased 9×5-inch loaf pans. - Second rise:
Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes, until dough rises about 1 inch above the pans. - Bake:
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown. - Cool:
Remove from pans and cool on a rack before slicing.
