Mama’s Cornbread Dressing

Ingredients

  • 4 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 2 cups day-old bread, crumbled or cubed
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 2–3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • Optional: shredded cooked chicken or turkey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt butter and sauté the onion and celery until soft.
  3. In a large bowl, mix crumbled cornbread and bread.
  4. Add the sautéed vegetables, eggs, and seasonings.
  5. Gradually pour in chicken broth until the mixture is moist but not soupy.
  6. Spread mixture into a greased baking dish.
  7. Bake 30–40 minutes until the top is golden brown.
