Creamy Custard Dessert

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Heat Milk and Cream: In a saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  3. Whisk Egg Yolks: In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks until smooth.
  4. Temper the Eggs: Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly to prevent curdling.
  5. Cook the Custard: Return the mixture to the saucepan over medium heat. Cook, whisking constantly, until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  6. Add Flavor: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Cool the Custard: Pour the custard into a dish or individual cups, cover with plastic wrap (touching the surface to prevent a skin from forming), and let it cool to room temperature.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set before serving.
