Ingredients:
- 4 slices of thick bread (preferably brioche, challah, or Texas toast)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
- Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fruit (for serving)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a shallow bowl or large plate, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Make sure everything is well combined.
- Heat the Pan: Place a large skillet or griddle on medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and let it melt, making sure the surface is evenly coated.
- Dip the Bread: Take one slice of bread and dip it into the egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides. Let it soak for about 5-10 seconds on each side, but don’t let it become too soggy.
- Cook the Toast: Place the soaked bread slice in the hot skillet. Cook for 2-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining bread slices, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
- Serve: Once all the slices are cooked, serve the French toast hot with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit on top. You can also sprinkle a little extra cinnamon if desired.
