Ingredients
- 500 g (1 lb) fresh strawberries, washed and hulled
- 4 cups (1 liter) water
- ½ cup sugar or honey (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
- Ice cubes, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries
- Slice the strawberries and place them in a large bowl or jar.
- Extract the flavor
- Add 2 cups of water and lightly mash the strawberries.
- Let them sit for 30–60 minutes to release their juices.
- Blend
- Transfer the strawberries and liquid to a blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- Strain
- Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a saucepan or large bowl to remove seeds and pulp.
- Sweeten
- Stir in the sugar or honey and lemon juice.
- Add the remaining 2 cups of water and mix well.
- Chill
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Serve
- Pour over ice and enjoy cold.
Optional Variations
- Add a few fresh mint leaves for a cooling flavor.
- Mix with sparkling water for a strawberry spritzer.
- Blend with watermelon for an extra-fruity summer drink.
