My grandmother used to bake this on chilly spring nights and it only takes 4 ingredients to make a hearty comforting meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese (or 1½ cups shredded cheddar)
  • 1 packet onion soup mix

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking dish or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in the onion soup mix and cook for 1–2 more minutes.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry slightly and cut into rectangles or squares.
  5. Place half the pastry pieces on the baking dish. Add a spoonful of beef mixture and top with cheese.
  6. Cover with remaining pastry pieces and press edges lightly to seal.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Let cool a few minutes before serving.

Optional Add-Ins

  • Diced onions or mushrooms
  • Pickles for a cheeseburger flavor
  • A dash of garlic powder or Worcestershire sauce

Serve warm with a simple salad, fries, or tomato soup for an easy comfort meal.
