Soft Homemade Skillet Flatbread Pita Style

Ingredients

  • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm water
  • 2 tbsp yogurt (optional, makes it softer)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for cooking)

1. Make the dough

  • In a bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  • Add warm water, yogurt, and الزيت (olive oil).
  • Mix until a soft dough forms.

2. Knead

  • Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • If sticky, add a little flour; if dry, add a bit of water.

3. Let it rise

  • Cover and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour (until doubled).

4. Shape

  • Divide into 8–10 balls.
  • Roll each into a round flat disc (about ½ cm thick).

5. Cook in skillet

  • Heat a pan (medium-high, no oil or very light oil).
  • Cook each piece 1–2 minutes per side until golden and puffed.

6. Keep soft

  • Stack and cover with a clean towel to keep them soft.

🔥 Tips

  • Don’t overcook or they’ll get dry.
  • For extra softness, brush lightly with butter after cooking.
  • You can store them covered for 2–3 days or freeze.
