Ultimate Magic Custard Cake Recipe – Light, Dreamy, & Layered

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs (room temperature, separated)
  • 1 cup (200g) sugar
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup (95g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups (500 ml) lukewarm milk
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven
    Set oven to 160°C (320°F). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Whip egg whites
    Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  3. Mix egg yolks & sugar
    In another bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar until pale and creamy.
  4. Add butter & vanilla
    Mix in melted butter and vanilla extract.
  5. Add flour
    Stir in flour until smooth.
  6. Pour in milk
    Gradually add lukewarm milk. The batter will be very thin—this is normal!
  7. Fold egg whites
    Gently fold the egg whites into the batter. Don’t fully combine—lumps are okay.
  8. Bake
    Pour into the dish and bake for 50–60 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  9. Cool completely
    Let it cool before slicing so the layers set properly.
  10. Serve
    Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!
