Cheese and Ham Wontons

Ingredients:

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup ham, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing the wontons)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Soy sauce (for dipping, optional)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella cheese, chopped ham, and cream cheese (if using). Stir well to combine.
  2. Assemble the wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Spoon about a teaspoon of the cheese and ham mixture in the center of the wrapper. Brush the edges of the wrapper with the beaten egg. Fold the wrapper into a triangle or rectangle (depending on your preference) and press the edges to seal tightly. You can also fold the wrapper into an envelope shape if you prefer.
  3. Heat the oil: In a deep pan or skillet, heat about 1-2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat. You can test if the oil is hot enough by dropping in a small piece of wonton wrapper—if it bubbles immediately, the oil is ready.
  4. Fry the wontons: Carefully drop the assembled wontons into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Drain and serve: Once crispy, remove the wontons from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with a side of soy sauce for dipping, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Enjoy these crispy, cheesy, savory bites as a snack or appetizer!
