Ingredients:
- 12 wonton wrappers
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
- 1/2 cup ham, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened (optional, for extra creaminess)
- 1 egg, beaten (for sealing the wontons)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Soy sauce (for dipping, optional)
- Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella cheese, chopped ham, and cream cheese (if using). Stir well to combine.
- Assemble the wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Spoon about a teaspoon of the cheese and ham mixture in the center of the wrapper. Brush the edges of the wrapper with the beaten egg. Fold the wrapper into a triangle or rectangle (depending on your preference) and press the edges to seal tightly. You can also fold the wrapper into an envelope shape if you prefer.
- Heat the oil: In a deep pan or skillet, heat about 1-2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat. You can test if the oil is hot enough by dropping in a small piece of wonton wrapper—if it bubbles immediately, the oil is ready.
- Fry the wontons: Carefully drop the assembled wontons into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and serve: Once crispy, remove the wontons from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with a side of soy sauce for dipping, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Enjoy these crispy, cheesy, savory bites as a snack or appetizer!
