Ingredients
Chicken
- 2–3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cut into bite-size pieces)
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs (beaten)
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Sweet & Sour Sauce
- ¾ cup sugar
- 4 tbsp ketchup
- ½ cup vinegar (white or apple cider)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Optional: ½ cup pineapple chunks or diced bell peppers
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Prepare chicken
- Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
- Coat each piece in cornstarch, then dip into the beaten eggs.
- Pan-fry
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Fry chicken pieces until lightly golden (not fully cooked).
- Place the chicken in a greased baking dish.
- Make the sauce
- In a bowl, mix together:
- sugar
- ketchup
- vinegar
- soy sauce
- garlic powder
- In a bowl, mix together:
- Combine
- Pour the sauce over the chicken in the baking dish.
- Add pineapple or bell peppers if using.
- Bake
- Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes so the sauce thickens and coats the chicken.
