Fluffy Poppy Seed Milk Bread Rolls (Baked in Cups)

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup (240ml) warm milk
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough:
    In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, yeast, and poppy seeds. Add warm milk, egg, and butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead:
    Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
  3. First rise:
    Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape:
    Divide the dough into equal portions and shape into smooth balls. Place each ball into a greased oven-safe cup or ramekin.
  5. Second rise:
    Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
  6. Egg wash:
    Brush the tops gently with egg yolk mixed with milk for a shiny golden finish.
  7. Bake:
    Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. Cool:
    Let them cool slightly before removing from cups. Enjoy warm!

Tip:

These are perfect as soft sandwich rolls or served with butter and jam.
