Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of whole milk
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and sugar.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, bring the mixture to a simmer. Continue to cook while stirring frequently for about 30-40 minutes, or until the mixture thickens and reduces by about half. It should have a syrupy consistency.
  4. Add the butter and vanilla extract (if using), stirring until the butter is fully melted and incorporated.
  5. Remove from heat and let it cool. It will thicken more as it cools.
  6. Transfer to an airtight container or jar and refrigerate. It will keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

This homemade version can be used in a variety of desserts, coffee, or even in place of store-bought sweetened condensed milk.
