Sausage Breakfast Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (pork, turkey, or chicken)
  • 8 large eggs

  • 1 tsp dried mustard powder (optional)

  • 2 tbsp butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions:

Prepare the Sausage Mixture:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Once browned and crumbled, add the diced onion and cook for another 3-4 minutes until softened. Drain any excess fat and set the sausage mixture aside.

Prepare the Egg Mixture:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, mustard powder (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir in 1 ½ cups of shredded cheddar cheese.

Assemble the Casserole:

  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter. Spread the cubed bread evenly in the bottom of the dish.
  • Layer the cooked sausage and onion mixture over the bread cubes, then pour the egg mixture evenly over the top.
  • Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese over the casserole.
