Ingredients:
- 12 mozzarella sticks (string cheese or block mozzarella cut into strips)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
- Oil for frying (vegetable oil or canola oil)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Mozzarella Sticks:
- If using string cheese, cut the cheese sticks in half or leave them whole, depending on your preference.
- Freeze the mozzarella sticks for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.
- Set Up a Breading Station:
- In one shallow bowl, add the flour.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs.
- In a third shallow bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese.
- Bread the Mozzarella Sticks:
- Dip each frozen mozzarella stick into the flour, coating it evenly.
- Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, making sure it’s fully coated.
- Finally, roll the cheese stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to make sure it sticks. For extra crunch, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb dip for a double layer.
- Fry the Mozzarella Rolls:
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat (around 350°F/175°C).
- Carefully place the breaded mozzarella sticks in the hot oil. Fry in batches, if necessary, so they aren’t overcrowded.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Serve:
- Remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like marinara sauce or ranch dressing.
