Crispy Mozzarella Cheese Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 12 mozzarella sticks (string cheese or block mozzarella cut into strips)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable oil or canola oil)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • If using string cheese, cut the cheese sticks in half or leave them whole, depending on your preference.
    • Freeze the mozzarella sticks for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.
  2. Set Up a Breading Station:
    • In one shallow bowl, add the flour.
    • In another bowl, whisk the eggs.
    • In a third shallow bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Bread the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • Dip each frozen mozzarella stick into the flour, coating it evenly.
    • Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, making sure it’s fully coated.
    • Finally, roll the cheese stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to make sure it sticks. For extra crunch, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb dip for a double layer.
  4. Fry the Mozzarella Rolls:
    • Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat (around 350°F/175°C).
    • Carefully place the breaded mozzarella sticks in the hot oil. Fry in batches, if necessary, so they aren’t overcrowded.
    • Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Drain and Serve:
    • Remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
    • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like marinara sauce or ranch dressing.
