Homemade Pita Bread Recipe

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp olive oil

1 cup warm water (about 40°C)

2 tsp instant yeast

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough

In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix, then knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.

  1. First Rise

Cover the dough and let it rest for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  1. Shape the Pitas

Punch down the dough and divide it into 10 equal balls.

Roll each ball into a round disc about 1 cm thick.

  1. Second Rest

Place the discs on a tray, cover, and let them rest for 20 minutes.

  1. Bake

Preheat oven to 230°C (450°F).

Bake the pita discs for 8–10 minutes, until lightly golden and puffed.

  1. Cool

Let them cool slightly, then serve warm or store in an airtight container.
